IMHO... Not!
There's a breed of humility which is itself a species of showing off.I have found myself on a number of ocasions inserting the acronym IMHO in my comments, or even in my own posts. For those of you who are acronymically challenged, IMHO stands for "In My Humble Oppinion". By using that acronym, I feel like I am devaluing my opinion. I am saying "I don't think you will agree with me, but..." or "My thoughts aren't really important, but..." Well, I have decided not to use IMHO any more.
- Sam Clemmens
You see, if my opinion were really very humble, I probably wouldn't be offering it - which I am. And if I did, it would probably be pandering to mass approval - which I'm not.
I value my opinions, they stem from who I am; and I voice them as topics of conversation. You don't have to agree with me, but whether you do or you don't, I'd like the oportunity to discuss it. I've said before that I write on this blog to comunicate with my friends. That is also why I comment. I have a special inbox for all comments on my blog and I love getting responses, even on my oldest posts. Because in these communications I get to voice my opinion, you get to voice yours, and we get to discuss it. And I am happy! Whee!
So I need a new acronym. There is IMO - In My Opinion - but that is isn't specific enough. I thought about IMPO - In My Personal Opinion - but "Imp-Oh" sounds silly to me. So I am going to go with IMNSHO - In My Not So Humble Opinion.
Well there you have it - the Odd Mix's odd acronym. IMNSHO. Look for it.
10 Comments:
IMNSHO I agree with you 100%. Everyone has a right to express his/her opinion and should not put qualifiers in front of it or worry about other's reaction to it. People should be able to engage in discussion and debate without having to apologize for what they believe.
Another thing I hate is when people say "well I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine". On some issues this is true, but I can say that I have changed my opinion on many issues and many times it's been because I have been convinced by someone's reasoned intelligent argument. It happens.
I thought IMHO meant I'm a Ho!...
glad we got that cleared up
I was going to suggest IJS ("I'm Just Sayin'....) but that's only slightly better than IMHO. I think INRI has been over-used. How about LUB, "Listen Up, Buddy?"
Personally, I hate using the acronyms and would much rather just say things without qualifying them. IJS...
Nice....I wish I were opinionated enough to create my own acronym!
At least IMNSHO will make people have to think about what it means :)
Opinions are what makes the world more interesting, IMNSHO.
How about LASU "Listen and shut up?" hehe
Although my favorite for myself is ILTHMT "I like to hear myself talk."
Well hello Odd Mix. I've noticed you on my blog. Thank you for visiting. And thank you even more so for sharing your HO on my recent post. I enjoyed both this and the link you posted today. I'm glad you found me. I'll be back to visit you.
Regards,
Mom of sweetie
Here here!! You should be able to say what you think. After all, there is the delete key for those folks who don't like your message. :)
Hey -- any chance the Weekend Words Challenge words can be posted earlier for those of us who are weekend (time) challenged?
Why use acronyms at all? Just say what you mean because you must mean what you say. That way anyone reading your blog will understand what you mean! What you have to say is definately important enough not to use shorthand to say it.
Well, well, well. SOMEONE is a little full of himself and his big fancy opinions...
Hee. IATJMWY.
I'd go with I"Imp-oh" myself. It has that nice Willy Wonka ring to it. And hey! What's not to like about Willy Wonka?
Okay, seriously? Most acronyms bug me. TAFJ! Like LOL. And ROTFL. I think it's because I sound them out and read them in my head that way and it ruins the FLOW, you know? They're all short and confusing and dequalifying and I have NO IDEA what they mean most of the time so, really, what's the point if I don't UNDERSTAND what the hell people are talking about? I'm just saying.
YMMV.
Cat's Guide To Catronyms:
IATJMWYA: I am totally just messing with you, ai'ight?
TAFJ!: That's a fact, Jack!
YMMV: Your mileage may vary.
